Agenda Item 1: Welcome & Introductions

  • Meeting was called to order by Marisa Ugarte, Executive Director of BSCC.
  • Introductions were done by members present.

Agenda Item 2: Projects for January 11, 2008 National Day of Human Trafficking Awareness 

  • Host a monthly mixer party to promote the Anti-Trafficking movement. Proceeds go to victim fund.
  • January 11, 2008 National Day of Human Trafficking Awareness TENATIVE VISTA events are as follows;
    • Press conference on January 10, 2008 at Balboa Park to promote the upcoming events for National Day of Human Trafficking Awareness.
    • Press conference on January 11, 2008 at Vista Townsite Community Center followed by;
    • breakfast and honors awards followed by;
    • Vista Townsite Community Center walk to the Vista Transit Center
  • January 11, 2008 BSCC events are as follows;
    • Press conference on January 10, 2008 at Balboa Park to promote the upcoming events for National Day of Human Trafficking Awareness.
    • outreach walk on El Cajon Blvd followed by;
    • candlelight vigil at Kimball Park, National City, CA

Agenda Item 3: Upcoming projects for 2008.

  • HHS can give letters to victims so that BSCC can give services. – VOCA services.
  • Purple Ribbon Campaign February 14, 2007 GABRIELA network

Committee Updates

  • Faith Based Committee:
    • Sister Christina had 1st female to complete the program and move onto independence
  • Strengthening the Network’s Effectiveness Committee:
    • No Updates
  • CSEC Committee:
    • Train the Trainer Conference January 23-25, 2008

 

  • Developing Resources to Combat Human Trafficking & CSEC committee:
    • No Updates
  • Announcements:
    • We need (10) books titled “SAFE PEOPLE” by Henry Cloud.  Your contributions will be for the attendees of group therapy sessions, thank you for your generosity.
    • If you would like to participate in our Food 4 Less Rewards Program, please see me or e-mail me for more information falfaro@bsccinfo.org.
    • If you would like to advertise upcoming events using our newsletter please contact Frances Alfaro and bring all information/materials.
    • We are currently collecting any old cell phones, ink cartridges and toners for rewards to help victims of human trafficking.  Please bring these in to help support BSCC.
    • Sale - We are selling Anti-Trafficking bracelets at $3.00 each or (2) bracelets for $5.00, if interested please see BSCC staff.
    • Sale – Landmark Theatres tickets for any San Diego Landmark theatre at $10.00 each, proceeds from the ticket will go towards the BSCC mission, please call or see any BSCC staff.

February Meeting Minutes;

Agenda Item 1: Welcome & Introductions

  • Meeting was called to order by Marisa Ugarte, Executive Director of BSCC.
  • Introductions were done by members present.

Agenda Item 2: Meditation Techniques for Victims - Jeff

  • Jeff is a Psychology, Sociology and Philosophy major
  • Works with anger, sadness, depression
  • Not a RELIGION.
  • Yoga is moving mediation, mediation is still movements
  • Meditation used in the Human Trafficking Boston Project
  • Meditation is awareness of the body not an escape.
  • POC for the meditation center in downtown San Diego, CA

Agenda Item 3: Upcoming projects for 2008.

  • HHS can give letters to victims so that BSCC can give services. – VOCA services.
  • Purple Ribbon Campaign February 14, 2007 GABRIELA network
    • Rose campaign fundraiser; Log on to website and donate in honor and support for women victims of violence. Example; special Valentines Day present.
  • Salvation Army – San Bernardino Training a complete success. Will have follow up committee on March 20, 2008 at 12pm.
  • 211 – Wants meeting with South Bay Senior of HHSA San Diego, gave training to staff present.
  • Find the endorsement to train the FBI in San Jose, CA.
  • Trial Run Pilot Project with Mediation Bridges in downtown San Diego, CA
  • Newsletter project have success stories printed for LA, OC, and SD counties.

  • Meeting was called to order by Patti Fox, CSEC Coordinator of BSCC.
  • Introductions were done by members present.

Agenda Item 2: Unity Updates      

  •  Vanguard University March 28-29 Marisa will be on panel. POC is Sandie Morgan
  • Hands that Heal is doing a pilot training of “Train the Trainer”
  • Unity  Awards
    • San Diego 7 subawards have been awarded
    • Orange County 3 subawards have been awarded
    • Los Angeles County have not been awarded yet

Agenda Item 3: BSCC Updates

  • Sudden Increase in victim identification in all of San Diego County
    • FFE to date Identified Victims – Actual Victims 550  At Risk – 658 (estimations)
    • From January 1 to February 15, 08 VICE has identified 150 prostitutes, 10% of which are children.
  • 19 Annual Candlelight Tribute for Crime Survivors is April 14, at 5:30 pm at the Police Officer’s Association.  This event is sponsored by the Victim Assistance Coordinating Council, members include FBI, U.S. Attorney’s Office, DEA, Postal Inspections Service, MADD, DA’s Victim Assistance Program, Parents of Murdered Children, San Diego Sheriff’s Department and many more.

Agenda Item 4: Catholic Charities Updates on U-Visa and T-Visa, Dede Hollowell

  • Women Against Violence Protection Act – Oct 07 regulations of the U-Visa are out. All victims awaiting process before Oct 07 for the U-Visa need to apply and submit paperwork by April 20. Call your local Catholic Charities for more information.
